Professional Two-Way Audio/Video System

Classical performance levels differ substantially from normal speaking levels and standard video calls. Rather than relying on a camera or computer microphone, ff studio uses a complete audio and video system operated by a recording engineer throughout the connection.

How ff studio maintains professional audio and video quality for online auditions
  • Multichannel capture and real-time mixing
Professional microphones are selected and positioned for the instrument or ensemble. The signals are routed into Pro Tools for a real-time rough mix, with appropriate dynamics and peak control on the master output to prevent the remote feed from sounding too quiet or distorting during loud passages.
  • Separate processing for performance and speech
A dedicated microphone is provided for the performer’s spoken communication. The recording engineer controls it manually, muting it during the performance and opening it for conversation so that both the music and speech remain clear and appropriately balanced.
  • Two-way audio routing and monitoring
The remote adjudicator’s or teacher’s audio is routed separately through the recording system and played through monitor speakers in the Live Room, allowing the performer to hear questions, instructions and feedback clearly.
  • Professional video and audio/video synchronization
The processed audio is sent to the video switcher and combined with the professional camera feed. Before the session, we check system latency and correct audio/video synchronization before sending the finished feed to Zoom or another required platform.

The complete system is monitored throughout by a recording engineer and connection operator. The purpose is not to alter the performance, but to prevent automatic gain control, distortion, low audio levels or synchronization delays in ordinary video-call equipment from affecting the adjudicator’s or teacher’s evaluation.
